Forest School is a child-centered inspirational learning process that offers opportunities for holistic development through regular sessions, typically outdoors, in a natural environment. It's a specialized approach that builds confidence and self-esteem through learner-led exploration and supported risk taking.

Forest Schools are suitable for all age groups from early years (2+) through to adults. The approach is adapted to meet the developmental needs of each group, with activities and challenges tailored appropriately.

Qualified Forest Schools are led by practitioners with a minimum Level 3 Forest School qualification. Look for providers with the FSA (Forest School Association) badge or other recognized accreditations on their listing. Our directory clearly indicates qualification levels.

Children should wear weather-appropriate clothing following the principle that 'there's no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing.' This typically includes waterproof outerwear, sturdy boots, layers for warmth in winter, and sun protection in summer.

Forest Schools manage risk appropriately rather than avoiding it entirely. Qualified practitioners conduct thorough risk assessments while allowing children to learn about managing their own safety. This balanced approach helps children develop risk awareness and confidence.
